Recognizing Viktoria Sundqvist after 10 years of service to CT SPJ
A VERY belated appreciation: In June, Viktoria’s term on the CT SPJ board ended as she reached the 10-year limit for board membership.
We appreciate her commitment to all the roles she filled on the board, including as president. With an almost encyclopedic knowledge of local and national rules, she kept our sometimes scatterbrained chapter on track. She did her best to continue recruiting new members even as the industry downsized (and spent countless hours going back and forth with national over database issues). She could be relied on to help with the contest, scholarship and dinner each year, and even found a way to continue recognizing journalists during the height of a pandemic.

Her dedication went above and beyond the basics. For example, she has volunteered time in the past to get new presidents up to speed on the demands of the role — and on the debates that have happened over the years. In recent years, she stepped up to dedicate hours to the Excellence in Journalism contest as the contest clerk. And she’s still willing to weigh in on decisions the board is considering despite having termed out.
Viktoria was one of the most organized and dedicated members of CTSPJ in recent memory, and we thank and commend her for her service.
Active CT SPJ members will have a (slightly delayed) chance to vote for the 2026-2027 board soon - the slate includes a prospective new member along with 9 returning members.
And pass it along: All CT journalists should start thinking now about entering the Excellence in Journalism contest with their work published in 2026!
